For someone who is not a fan of any form of medical settings (including the veterinarian's office) and for someone who donated for the first time in his life in July, guess who pointed out that it is almost time to donate whole blood again?

Groovy, I'm impressed!

Looks like this weekend includes giving blood. Yeah!

First time ever I was rejected from donating blood. My darn blood iron was 0.2 below the allowed level. Time to eat lots of lentils and spinach and try again in a few days. On a good note, Groovy donated for the first time! I'm so proud of him.

Two and a half weeks until I can donate whole blood again. Who's with me?

February 4th, 1991 was the first time I ever donated blood......and passed out (which made me miss my lunch period! grrrr!!!) . Since that time, I have gone through bouts of donating totaling 15 donations. (Proud card carrying gallon club member) March 14th with be donation number 16. It is amazing to think that one of those pints may have saved a person's life, another may have made someones surgery possible, still another may have been used in research... and, the conspiracy theorist part of me believes, that another was used in some crazy government experiment involving cloning and there is a whole army of Melissa's roaming the Earth... okay, no, not really...

just in time

Today, I am able to donate whole blood again! Just in time to help with the blood shortage happening in New York. I am thinking about "recruiting" others to come donate with me on my next donation date and offer to drive everyone of my friends who say yes. For those of you non-local friends and readers, how about finding your local blood center or drive and give today?

Before I moved out of New York, I was a regular whole blood donor, in the Gallon Club and everything. Unfortunately, life and grad school helped distract me from this task.

I was inspired and did a walk in donation today.

I'm posting this because I am hoping to inspire at least one of you to go out and donate, too.

You'll be saving a life at a time of year when the blood banks tend to have a shortage.

And if you are not into the whole life saving thing, then donate in honor of the tween marketed Twilight!

Next time I can donate is January 17th. Maybe I'll see you there!
