still in love after all these hikes
Despite the (internal) stress, I truly loved this weekend. Spending time with Groovy, hiking, hanging with the folks, watching Sherman hop around like a mad hare, and being somewhat productive were all incredibly enjoyable. Most of the time, it is these simple things that make life worth living.

we come in peace on valentine's day
Got a DVD version of a classic yoga video that I wanted.
Drove 80 miles to the end of the Island .
Hiked around the trails for 2 and 1/2 hours.
Actually SAW the Montauk Lighthouse and Camp Hero ("The Montauk Project")
(I have only live on the Island for a combined 30 plus years, so I guess it was about time.)
Had sushi at one of my favorite sushi restaurants that looks like a dive but has fantastic food.
Came home and did yoga.
The perfect Valentine's Day.
Thanks Groovy!

no suntan here
It was a beautiful day to be hiking on the beach. We bundled up in many layers, only to find that it was not cold and windy. The sky was blue, the sun was shining and the sound of the waves were relaxing. We hiked for an hour, trudging through the soft sand and finding amusement in the swift legs of the piping plovers. This is how I enjoy the beach, not by slathering myself with oil and cooking myself on a beach towel. Where's the fun in that? I would rather move my body, enjoy the sights and collect some interesting shells, stones and beach glass. Ah, the clean smell of the ocean air on a crisp February day. This is living.

Summit
It is good to take a look around when you get to the summit to appreciate the reward of your effort, but it is just as important to look back and remember the path you took to get there. Yes, I mean this both literally and figuratively. Here I am enjoying the summit of a peak in the Berkshires and it was stunning. With views of Mt Greylock to the north and the Catskills to the southwest, it was quite a lovely reward. However, the bigger reward is in the hindsight. We took the most challenging trail up and there were segments where nine months ago I would not have been able to conquor physically, but we both did it....sweating, panting and in need of a bottle of water (why'd we leave those in the car?), but we did it.
Often, I don't give myself enough credit for what I can do. I overshadow my successes with thoughts of the goals I have not yet accomplished. It's good for me to keep looking forward and keep myself motivated, but sometimes, like today, you may even catch me being proud of myself.
I think I will head out now for a jog.....and I'll be satisfied with however long I actually go...no judgement or thoughts of how much more I want to run next time out....and I will enjoy both the journey and the summit :)
